I was very saddened and dismayed by the Green Party conference vote to endorse this motion. It is divisive and harmful to community cohesion. A number of prominent Green politicians, councillors and former Green Party leaders warned against going in this direction. The conference should have heeded their advice.

On 4 October 2026 the Green Party of England and Wales passed a motion declaring that "Zionism is racism". It brands as racism the belief, held by around nine in ten British Jews, that the Jewish people have the right to a homeland of their own, and binds the party to treat that belief "as any other form of racism". Councillors and MPs of every other party are being asked to say, in public, that Zionism is not racism.
